Privacy Policy for PDF Tools

This policy explains what PDF Tools ("the app") does with your information. It is written to be read, not to be survived.

The short version

Your documents never leave your phone. Every PDF operation in this app — converting a web page, merging, splitting, removing pages, extracting text or images, adding watermarks, viewing — runs entirely on your device. There is no account, no upload, no server of ours, and no sync.

The app is free and shows ads. The advertising and crash-reporting SDKs it uses do collect information about your device. That is the part worth reading below.

What stays on your device

The following never leaves your phone and is never transmitted to us or anyone else:

  • Your PDFs, images and any file you open, create or save. The app reads and writes files only where you point it, using Android's system file picker. It has no network path for your documents.
  • Extracted text and extracted images. Produced locally and written where you choose.
  • Browser history and bookmarks. Stored in a local app data file.
  • Your settings. Ad blocker on/off, JavaScript on/off, and viewer preferences.
  • Ad-free reward state. Whether you have claimed the share reward and when it expires.

Uninstalling the app deletes all of it. We cannot recover it because we never had it.

What is collected, and by whom

The app itself does not ask you for personal information. It has no sign-up, no login and no contact form. However, it includes third-party SDKs that collect data on their own behalf.

Google AdMob — Advertising

Used to show the ads that fund the app. AdMob may collect:

  • Your Advertising ID (a resettable identifier Android provides for advertising)
  • IP address and approximate location derived from it
  • Device information such as model, operating system version, language and screen characteristics
  • Ad interaction data such as which ads were shown, viewed or tapped

AdMob is an advertising network, so this information is shared with Google and, depending on the ad served, with advertising partners.

Firebase Analytics — Usage Measurement

Used to understand which features are actually used. Collects app usage events, session counts, device model, OS version, country and device identifiers, including the Advertising ID.

Firebase Crashlytics — Crash Reporting

Used to find and fix crashes. When the app crashes it sends a stack trace plus device state including model, OS version, memory and storage conditions, and an app-generated installation identifier. Crash reports do not contain the contents of your documents.

We access all three only as aggregated reports. We cannot identify you from them.

The built-in browser

The browser loads web pages you choose to visit. Those pages are third-party websites and they can set cookies and run their own tracking exactly as they would in any other browser. This policy does not cover them. Please refer to the privacy policy of the website you visit.

Two things worth stating plainly:

  • Ad Blocker (Settings → Ad blocker, off by default) blocks requests to known advertising and tracking hosts while browsing. It does not affect the ads shown by the app itself.
  • Reader Mode reformats a page locally on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere to perform this function.

We do not log, transmit or analyse the pages you visit.

Permissions

  • Internet — Required by the browser to load web pages and by the advertising and analytics SDKs.
  • Advertising ID (com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID) — Required by AdMob to serve advertisements.

The app does not request storage, camera, microphone, contacts or location permissions. File access is provided through Android's system file picker, which grants access only to the files you select.

Your choices

  • Reset or delete your Advertising ID.
    Android Settings → Privacy → Ads.
  • Opt out of ad personalisation. You will still see ads, but they will be less targeted.
  • Enable the Ad Blocker from the app's Settings to reduce third-party tracking while browsing.
  • Clear browser history and bookmarks from within the browser.
  • Uninstall the app. Everything stored locally is removed with it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or object to the processing of your personal data and to withdraw consent.

Because we hold no account and no server-side record of you, we usually cannot act on such requests directly. The information described above is held by Google for its own services. Requests relating to that information should generally be directed to Google using the links above. If you contact us, we will help you determine where your request should be sent.

Data retention

We retain no personal data ourselves. Retention of AdMob, Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics data is governed by Google's policies. Analytics data is kept for a configurable retention period, while Crashlytics reports are retained on a rolling basis.

Children

The app is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). If you believe a child has provided personal data through the app, please contact us and we will take appropriate action. Because the built-in browser can access any website, supervision is recommended for younger users.

Users in the European Economic Area (EEA) and the United Kingdom

Advertisements shown in the app may be personalised using the information described above. Where consent is legally required, it is requested through Google's consent mechanism before personalised advertisements are shown. If you decline, you will still receive advertisements, but they will be non-personalised.

Our lawful basis is consent for advertising and analytics, and legitimate interest for crash reporting and application security.

Security

Your files never travel over a network to us, eliminating an entire category of risk. Data stored on your device is protected by Android's application sandbox. Information transmitted by third-party SDKs is sent over encrypted connections to Google.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy whenever the app changes in a way that affects it. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the latest version. Significant changes will also be noted in the application's release notes.
